Long Bend fire

This fire began on June 22, 2024 and by the next day had burned about 1,024 acres.  This image shows the area just before the fire started.  It's a false color image, meaning that bright red areas are regions with vegetation.  Credit:  European Space Agency.

 

The bottom image shows the same region on June 25, 2024, three days after the fire started.  The burn scar is black and shows how this fire directly threatened Maupin.  By this time the fire was mostly out, though hotspots persisted as late as July 2.  Image credit:  European Space Agency.
