Engine 8 is custom-built on a 2020 Freightliner 4x4 chassis by Blanchat Manufacturing to JFRFPD specifications to fight both structure and wild fires. It has a 1500 gallon tank and dual auxiliary pumps. Critical plumbing is housed in winterized compartments to allow operations in subfreezing temperatures. It is one of a new generation of trucks designed for fighting the larger, faster-moving fires anticipated in the coming decade. It is housed in a main bay in Station 1. Engine 8 carries 4,500 feet of hose. The engined also is equipped with an infrared camera mounted on the monitor with a display in the cab, dual radios, wireless headsets, GPS, dash camera, a console-mounted iPad to display incident data. All operations are controllable from the driver seat.
